What should be made of Apple's staggering sales figures? Its $18 billion [Dh66bn] profit for the last quarter was not just higher than predictions but the highest ever reported by any private company. It means Apple was selling nearly 10 iPhones a second during this time.
While iPad sales were described as disappointing, that was only by comparison. The company shipped 21.4 million iPads, sales figures that most other companies would be celebrating.
On one level, this silences the naysayers who predicted Apple’s demise after the death of Steve Jobs, its founder and figurehead. The company says it also “feels pretty good” about sales in this quarter, which will see the release of the Apple Watch, the first item to be developed under new CEO Tim Cook. But having raised the bar, has he really just made a rod for his own back because everyone will be expecting this staggering growth to continue?
