President Sheikh Mohamed on Friday held high-level talks with Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, as part of an official visit to the country.

The two leaders reviewed efforts to strengthen co-operation between the nations, with a focus on the economy, investment and development.

Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the countries and reflected the vital role played by UAE Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in bolstering relations.

He emphasised the importance of continued co-ordination on both regional and international affairs, noting that Pakistan’s current seat on the UN Security Council offers a valuable opportunity to boost joint efforts to support peace worldwide.

Sheikh Mohamed said discussions centred on ways to "strengthen the historical and longstanding ties between our nations and peoples," in a message on X.

"As the UAE and Pakistan work to further advance cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, and development, we remain committed to achieving shared growth and prosperity for our countries," he added.

Mr Sharif said the visit represented a significant step forward in UAE-Pakistan relations and reflected a shared commitment to advancing partnerships.

The meeting was attended by the accompanying delegation, which included Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan, Adviser to the UAE President; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, Adviser to the UAE President; several ministers and top officials, and Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi, Ambassador of the UAE to Pakistan.

Sheikh Mohamed was earlier received on arrival at Nur Khan military base in Islamabad by Mr Sharif and a number of ministers and senior officials, the state news agency Wam reported.

The plane carrying Sheikh Mohamed was accompanied by a squadron of military aircraft as it entered Pakistani airspace. He was given an official reception ceremony in which the national anthems of both countries were played, a 21-gun salute was fired and a guard of honour stood to salute him.

The military band and heritage groups also performed, while groups of children waved the flags of both countries.
