The National Centre of Meteorology has warned of a chance of rain in parts of the UAE over the next few days.
In its five-day bulletin posted on Thursday, the NCM warned of a “probability of light rainfall” especially by night and into Friday morning over the islands and western areas of the country.
It also warned of more fog in parts of the UAE on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning and into next week.
Fog enveloped parts on the UAE on Thursday with the NCM issuing red and yellow warnings for large parts of Abu Dhabi emirate.
It comes as crowds descend on Yas Island for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The four-day event starts on Thursday, with practice sessions and major music concerts taking place every night culminating in the main Formula One race on Sunday at Yas Marina Circuit.
The NCM said there will be some cloud in western parts of the UAE on Friday with a “probability of rainfall, especially over the islands and some coastal and western areas”.
It will be humid on Friday night and Saturday morning over some internal areas with foggy or misty conditions likely. Similar weather is expected on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday is expected to bring some early morning cloud but this is set to clear for a largely sunny F1 race day.
It comes as temperatures continue to decline across the UAE as the country shifts into the winter season. The lowest temperature recorded over the country on Thursday morning was 9.9°C in Raknah in Al Ain.
According to the NCM, December is the start of meteorological winter when temperatures decrease by 3ºC to 6ºC compared to November. Temperatures range from 17.7°C to 21.8°C during the month, it said.
The highest temperature on record for December was 37°C in 2016 at Sweihan in Abu Dhabi with the lowest temperature minus 0.7°C at Jabal Jais in 2004.
The most days of fog recorded was 20 in 2014 and the highest rainfall recorded was 208.4mm at the NCM's Dhudna station in Fujairah in 2006.
