Registration for the annual Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge is now open giving participants eight months to prepare for the popular sporting event.
This year’s cycle challenge will be held on Friday, December 15, however four build-up rides will be held in the lead-up to the event to help participants prepare. The first of the rides is on Friday, September 8, and will cover 35 kilometres around Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City – District One. There will also be a cycle village with sponsors’ activities, breakfast and games for children. Subsequent rides will be held on September 29 (50km), October 20 (65km) and November 17 (85km).
Although the event attracts more than 2,000 cyclists, it caters for all levels and age groups, with several categories for juniors and two distances for adults – 92km and 53km – making it accessible even for new cyclists.
Donal Kilalea, co-owner of the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge, said there had been a continued increase in entries since the event’s launch eight years ago.
“Popularity of the sport has gained tremendous momentum over the years in the Middle East with more and more people taking it up and owning their own bike. The Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge is ideal for beginners with our build-up rides as well as those more experienced with the increase in distance at each event,” Kilalea said.
Junior rides, which will be held on December 14, include timed 2.5km, 15km and 30km distances catering for 6- to 15-year-olds.
