Sign up for yoga retreat and kids’ classes at Le Meridien Dubai

Natural Elements Spa & Fitness Centre at Le Meridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre will host a detox yoga retreat next month.

The two-day weekend retreat, on February 3 and 4, caters for all ages and skill levels and will be led by Dubai-based teacher Lynda Johns, who is certified by the Yoga Alliance USA.

The schedule includes daily sessions of yoga, pranayama (yogic breathing), meditation and workshops on yogic philosophy. Vegetarian meals and a one-hour massage are included, as well as access to the pool, fitness and sauna facilities and discounts on selected spa and salon treatments and one- and three-month fitness packages. There is an also option to stay overnight for an extra fee.

The retreat costs Dh1,299 per person, or Dh2,499 with a one-night stay in a Royal Club room. There is an early bird offer of Dh1,999 (with accommodation) for bookings made before January 25.

Natural Elements has also introduced weekly kids’ yoga classes with Johns. The 50-minute classes for ages 12 to 17 combine traditional yoga with imaginative play, helping them to develop better breathing skills, release stress, focus and concentrate more effectively and achieve a greater sense of calm. The classes are held on Wednesdays at 5pm and cost Dh65 per session.

“We live in a hectic world and in hectic times. Yoga provides us with the tools we need to slow down and remain centred and in good spirits at all times. It’s the perfect practice to help children and teens maintain healthier relationships with their loved ones and perform better at school,” says Johns.

Why your domicile status is important

Your UK residence status is assessed using the statutory residence test. While your residence status – ie where you live - is assessed every year, your domicile status is assessed over your lifetime.

Your domicile of origin generally comes from your parents and if your parents were not married, then it is decided by your father. Your domicile is generally the country your father considered his permanent home when you were born.

UK residents who have their permanent home ("domicile") outside the UK may not have to pay UK tax on foreign income. For example, they do not pay tax on foreign income or gains if they are less than £2,000 in the tax year and do not transfer that gain to a UK bank account.

A UK-domiciled person, however, is liable for UK tax on their worldwide income and gains when they are resident in the UK.
