Dubai Fitness Challenge 2019: five workout classes to try this weekend

Try your hand at beach yoga, tennis drills or HIIT sessions with the citywide fitness challenge

The Dubai Fitness Challenge kicks off on Friday, October 18. Now in its third year, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai's fitness initiative aims to get the emirate of Dubai moving, encouraging residents to workout for 30 minutes daily, for 30 days.

Whether you fancy a high impact sweat session, trying something completely new or finding your zen in (or out) of the yoga studio, there is something for everyone.

Here we have rounded up five workouts to try with the Dubai Fitness Challenge this weekend...

CrossFit

If you're new to it, a Dubai Fitness Challenge session is the perfect time to try CrossFit. Take an entry level 60-minute conditioning class, which will introduce you to the techniques you need to build on in CrossFit. The sessions incorporate weightlifting, gymnastics and cardio conditioning.

Kite Beach Run 

Ultimate Athletics is organising a 30-minute interval session, far from a boring jog, it will focus on running form and technique with the guidance of professional coaches. Take tips on board that will improve your running stamina, speed and endurance.

Cardio Tennis 

Think tennis but fast, very fast! Participants can expect drills and group activities, as you work on quick tennis technique. Up to 1,000 balls can be hit in an hour, burning up to 700 calories. Take your own tennis racket, if you have one, but you can also borrow from the venue.

Hatha Yoga on the Beach 

It's now considerably cooler in the mornings, so seize the opportunity to get outdoors and workout al fresco. A wonderful way to start the day, enjoy a satisfying hour-long stretch and focus session, with a view of the sea in the morning.

Saturday, October 19, meet at 6.45am, session from 7am; free; Meet at House of Om, Jumeirah, Dubai

Grit Cardio HIIT 

Take a Grit Cardio high intensity (HIIT) class at Fitness 4 Life. The 30-minute Les Mills session is a quick calorie burn, getting your heart rate up with fast-paced movements. The workout will use predominantly body weight exercises.
