Beauty in a bottle: drink yourself healthy

The promise of being able to 'drink yourself beautiful' is a bold one and straight from the mouth of fresh-faced, 26-year-old German entrepreneur Martin Speers, who was in Dubai this month to launch Ocoo.

The promise of being able to “drink yourself beautiful” is a bold one and comes straight from the mouth of the fresh-faced, 26-year-old German entrepreneur Martin Speers, who was in Dubai this month to launch Ocoo.

It all started with this one simple question I asked my friend, and now co-founder: ‘Why can’t beauty be drinkable?’ he said. Of course, there are pills and injections on the market, but as we all know, nutrition has such a big impact on the body. We created a think-tank with experts from universities and labs to come up with this unique drink. It took two years of intensive research and development to make it perfect.
Tasting like a berry cocktail (it contains cranberries, pomegranates, red grapes, aronias, blackcurrants and acai berries), Speers dubs his anti-ageing elixir a skin and body quencher because of its ingredients such as zinc and selenium, which contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative damage.
It’s scientifically proven that in six to eight weeks you’ll notice a difference in your hair and nails, he says. In that time span, the body’s cells naturally renew and from my side, my pimples disappeared, my nails became stronger and my hair’s condition improved – after drinking just one bottle a day.

"We really don't perceive this as a drink, but as a drinkable lifestyle," he adds. "And we're hoping to create a holistic world around this brand, that may include places or venues where you could go and drink Ocoo." Each 250ml bottle is 100 per cent recyclable, contains half a person's recommended daily allowance of vitamins (biotin, zinc, selenium, copper, iodine and vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, C & E), packs under 50 calories and costs Dh49 a pop.
