A 141-room hotel is set to open in Dubai’s Studio City and it's bringing some of the emirates’ most-loved dining and nightlife outlets with it.
The Studio One Hotel will open later this quarter, but there's already excitement building for the collection of new dining outlets that will call this place home.
Old Favourites
As well as The Maine Street Eatery, the latest venture from the people behind JBR's The Maine Oyster Bar and Grill, Dubai stalwart The Irish Village will also open at the hotel.
The pub has been offering up traditional Irish food, drink and music for 23 years in its Garhoud location and the new outpost will be its fourth in Dubai. LARTE, which first found a home in Dubai’s Design District, will also open a new venue in the hotel, in the shape of an Italian neighbourhood bistro.
Home-grown brands
The Meating Room will serve fusion Indian food with dishes like Shiny Disco Fries and Botti Licious lamb set to make an appearance if the menu is anything like the original in Karama.
Home-grown Asian nightspot Mr Miyagi's will also join the scene. Named after the iconic martial arts sensei from hit eighties movie The Karate Kid, guests can expect Asian street food and a party vibe if the new place takes its lead from the original in Dubai's Media One hotel or its recent outpost at Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi.
Questionably named after the accused Mexican drug kingpin, El Chapos is set to serve food from across the United Mexican States.
Bedding down
There will be a mix of five different room types including long-stay studio options and bunk bed rooms that are not just for kids. Each will feature bold graphics, pop-art prints and exposed elements, and there will be a handy grab and go pantry on every level.
There will also be a mini-cinema, a temperature-controlled swimming pool, a gym and a beauty salon.
On Air
Nodding to its location in Dubai Studio City, known for its creative, entertainment, broadcast and music production companies, the hotel’s interiors have a retro media vibe courtesy of On Air recording boxes functioning as door signs and old television test graphics woven into the corridor carpets. Old cassette tape pencil holders desktop mock typewriters and screen-reel wall coverings add to the vibe.
Located just behind Dubai Motor City, Studio City is conveniently placed for travellers landing at either DXB or DWC airports. Nearby attractions include Mall of the Emirates, Global Village, Dubai Autodrome and IMG Worlds of Adventure.

What is blockchain?
Blockchain is a form of distributed ledger technology, a digital system in which data is recorded across multiple places at the same time. Unlike traditional databases, DLTs have no central administrator or centralised data storage. They are transparent because the data is visible and, because they are automatically replicated and impossible to be tampered with, they are secure.
The main difference between blockchain and other forms of DLT is the way data is stored as ‘blocks’ – new transactions are added to the existing ‘chain’ of past transactions, hence the name ‘blockchain’. It is impossible to delete or modify information on the chain due to the replication of blocks across various locations.
Blockchain is mostly associated with cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Due to the inability to tamper with transactions, advocates say this makes the currency more secure and safer than traditional systems. It is maintained by a network of people referred to as ‘miners’, who receive rewards for solving complex mathematical equations that enable transactions to go through.
However, one of the major problems that has come to light has been the presence of illicit material buried in the Bitcoin blockchain, linking it to the dark web.
Other blockchain platforms can offer things like smart contracts, which are automatically implemented when specific conditions from all interested parties are reached, cutting the time involved and the risk of mistakes. Another use could be storing medical records, as patients can be confident their information cannot be changed. The technology can also be used in supply chains, voting and has the potential to used for storing property records.
