BRUNEI // With residents of the south-east Asia nation of Brunei accustomed to such perks as no taxation, free health care and free education, the paid parking scheme, introduced on April 1 in three districts, has been accompanied by a comprehensive advertising campaign to explain how it works. Motorists can purchase booklets of 10 prepaid coupons which are valid for three years. The coupons are colour-coded according to time frames from 30 minutes, which costs 30 cents (Dh1.10), up to one month, which costs $150 (Dh550). The new system has a one-month familiarisation period, after which time fines of up to $500 (Dh1,840) will be imposed for non-payment.
