Lamborghini’s “super SUV”, the Urus, has touched down in the UAE, with its public unveiling this week in Dubai followed by an appearance at the brand’s Nation Towers showroom Abu Dhabi on Saturday and Sunday.
The Urus, which preceded its UAE launch by going on a tour of the seven emirates’ royal palaces, is projected to be a big unit-shifter for the Italian brand, with a new factory in its base in Sant'Agata Bolognese specifically built to manufacture the new model.
“We are expecting to at least double our sales in this region,” says Lamborghini chairman and chief executive Stefano Domenicali, who was at the unveiling in Dubai. “This is a very important market for us already and even more so now that the Urus has arrived.”
The Urus is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine that pushes out 650hp and can propel the two-tonne-plus vehicle from 0 to 60kph in 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 305kph.
The National swung past Lamborghini Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road to grab a special private viewing of the SUV, which is expected to start deliveries in the UAE this summer, costing from US$214,500 (Dh787,880).
