It's all about timing for Etihad Airways and Breitling as the most punctual airline in the Middle East pairs up with one of the world’s most precise watchmakers. Etihad Airways has announced that the Swiss watchmaker is now the airline's official timekeeper.

Recently named the most on-time airline in the Middle East by aviation Data Company OAG, the partnership is perhaps no huge surprise given Breitling’s precision for time coupled with the watchmaker's long-running connection with pilot’s watches.

To celebrate the partnership, Breitling has creating a limited edition timepiece called The Aviator 8 Etihad Limited Edition in black steel.

Having won favour with pilots over the decades thanks to the functionality and precision of its timepieces, Breitling’s new timepiece has been co-designed with Etihad and will retail for Dh19,000. The timepiece is limited to just 500 pieces and will launch exclusively in Etihad’s home base of Abu Dhabi.

Set on a black leather strap, the automatic wristwatch uses a Breitling Calibre 45 movement. It has a self-winding bidirectional rotor with an impressive 38 hours of power reserve. It’s also waterproof up to 100 metres.

Golden Arabic numerals gild the sleek black dial which is encased in double anti-reflective sapphire glass. The resilient 41mm case in stainless steel has a diamond-like coating, making it entirely scratch resistant.

Inspired by Arabian traditions, wearers can read the day of the week in Arabic script at the 12 o’clock position and identify the date at the 6 o’clock marker.

“To mark our collaboration with Breitling as Etihad’s Official Timekeeper, we have introduced the Aviator 8 Etihad Limited Edition, reflecting our Arabian heritage, age-old traditions and focus on the future. We are confident it will be popular among customers and watch collectors,” said Robin Kamark, Etihad’s chief commercial officer.
