The acclaimed designer Yves Behar has further strengthened his sustainability credentials with the launch of One Laptop Per Child's new XO-3 tablet.

The non-profit One Laptop Per Child organisation is on a mission to provide every child in the world with access to "new channels of learning, sharing and self-expression". It aims to supply each of these children with a rugged, low-cost, low-power connected laptop.

Behar, who has been the organisation's chief designer since 2006, is a firm believer in design as a force for positive social and environmental change. His works are currently on show in museums across the globe. He has received more than 200 awards and was named a Top 25 Visionary by Time magazine.

"After six years of design development with Nicholas Negroponte and the non-profit organisation he founded, One Laptop Per Child, I am incredibly excited to share the next generation XO-3 tablet. More than 2.4 million children in 25 countries received the original XO Laptop, and these kids have been our inspiration to create the next generation of this educational tool," says Behar.

The XO-3 is defined by its simplicity and incorporates many of the same robust features as its predecessor. These include rubber protection in the form of a jaunty green border, and anti-scratch grip textures. The XO-3 also includes a rear-facing camera, an arced front surface that allows easy access to ports and buttons, and a solar cover option.

"Our approach has been to minimise complexity, while delivering a high quality and a heightened touch feel. There is playfulness in the way one can adapt the cover to different needs, while each design detail and material is chosen to deliver maximum value," Behar says.
