Situated within the capital's largest hotel, the five-star Grand Millennium Al Wahda, the accommodation comprises 156 standard one-bedrooms, 52 two-bedrooms and 24 premium one-bedroom apartments. All the units have a fully equipped kitchen with black marble worktops and stylish dark wood cabinets; integrated washer/dryer, refrigerator/freezer and a ceramic electric hob/electric oven, kettle and toaster. Cookware, crockery and cutlery are all provided.

There's also free broadband and satellite TV in both the lounge and master bedrooms. Extra features in the premium suite include a separate dining area with a table to seat four people. The rooms are serviced three times a week and prices include one parking space, free use of the Millennium's gym, pool and business centre, concierge service and a 15 per cent discount on room service. Minimum leases are available from three to six months, subject to inquiry.

All the apartments have an open-plan layout with large, floor-to-ceiling windows that allow in plenty of light and offer fantastic views across the city. The rooms are decorated in a warm, contemporary style using complementing neutrals (creams, taupes, browns) and stylish finishing touches. There are built-in wardrobes and storage cupboards in the lounge area and bedroom, plus shelves for books and personal effects. The enormous family-sized bathrooms all have huge walk-in showers plus a bath tub and are finished to a high-end specification with stone-tiled floors and walls.

The apartments are certainly more spacious than you'd expect for hotel accommodation. The standard one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment is 74 square metres, while the premium one-bedroom, one bath is 97 square metres - the size of an average two-bedroom apartment. The two-bed apartment (with one king-size bed and two singles), has two bathrooms and a guest washroom and is an impressive 110 square metres.

Pluses

The convenience. Fully furnished and ready to move right in, the rent also includes use of the hotel's rooftop pool and fitness centre (currently the largest in the city), and you have the hotel's restaurants and bars just beneath you. Plus, with your room serviced three times a week, you can eliminate tidying and cleaning from your life entirely. Conversely, if you prefer your privacy, a reduced number of visits can be arranged.

The inclusive perks: the currently published rate for membership of the (impressive) gym, for example, is Dh14,000 per year. Additionally, the inclusion of free broadband and satellite TV will save you a couple of thousand dirhams a year. Plus there's all the little touches of hotel living to enjoy - cosy robes, slippers and L'Occitane toiletries.

Minuses

Despite all the stylish touches, there's no escaping the fact you are living in a hotel. If you're someone who likes to put your personal stamp somewhere, this may not be a long-term option.

Verdict

Unlike in Dubai, the number of fully furnished units in Abu Dhabi is limited and these are a superior, stylish addition to this sector of the rental market, offering luxurious accommodation with five-star benefits. An excellent premium option for those who don't wish to commit to a long-term tenancy, those with a busy travel schedule or anyone who wishes to sample Abu Dhabi life before moving here permanently.
