Those invited included three women from this region; the television host Diala Makki, the fashion designer Ingie Chalhoub, and Afef Jnifen, the Tunisian actress and model, all of whom created a one-off shirt.

Others involved include the models Diane Kruger, Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, Amber Valletta, Formula 1 racing driver Lewis Hamilton, designer Tommy Hilfiger, creative director of Gucci Alessandro Michelle, and Carine Roitfeld stylist and ex editor in chief of French Vogue.

Tasked with interpreting Lagerfeld’s famous white shirt, which he wore every day, each design is unique, and selected pieces will now form part of a travelling exhibition, that will tour Karl Lagerfeld stores around the world, in conjunction with some of Lagerfeld's own sketches.

In addition, customers will be able to customise their own Lagerfeld white shirt, while seven of the bespoke pieces will be produced in strictly limited edition of 77 and will sell for Euro777 each (Dh3,121). All proceeds will be donated to the French charity “Sauver la Vie,” which funds medical research which Lagerfeld supported for many years.
