World Record attempt
If you want to have a go at making history this weekend, you’ll need to be at the Al Seef Dhow Deck at the waterfront promenade in Dubai on Saturday. Residents and visitors will be attempting to claim the Guinness World Record for the most people lighting LED lights in relay. The attempt coincides with Diwali celebrations, which will see fireworks light up the skies over Dubai Creek. Pre-register at www.ibuz.ae/recordattempt or register on the day from 3.30pm.
A foodie fiesta

If you're a foodie, you will no doubt have plans to attend Taste of Abu Dhabi this weekend. It's your opportunity to learn kitchen secrets from some of the best in the business, join in cooking classes, shop and enjoy live music in one spot. There's a wellness pavilion, a kids' zone, a VIP lounge and a baking tent that will play host to master patissier Eric Lanlard. The event runs until Saturday at du Arena on Yas Island.
Try reiki at Zaya Nurai
If you love a good spa treatment and are looking for one that provides stress-relief, try one of the new reiki offerings at Nurai Spa. The facility at the luxury island resort – a 10-minute boat ride from Saadiyat Island – has this month welcomed fourth-generation reiki master Syrine to the team, and she will be available every Tuesday and Saturday for energy healing. After the treatment, enjoy the serenity of the sea from the relaxation lounge. Call 02 5066 222 or email info@nurai.com to book.
A theatrical Friday feast

Grab a front-row seat to the theatre of food preparation at the new Great Waldorf Astoria Brunch, where chefs will interact with diners as they cook dishes such as homemade mini truffle pasta in cocktail shakers and deliver dishes in wheelbarrows. There will also be a live saxophonist, a juggling act and a magician on hand to keep the fun going. Mezzerie restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah is hosting the brunch every Friday from 1pm to 4pm, with prices starting from Dh375.
