Keep your eyes peeled foodies. Rumour has it celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is in Dubai. We’re not sure if it’s for work or holiday (or if he’s actually even here), but food sleuths in Dubai have been buzzing about it all day.
Earlier today, Sally Prosser, the blogger behind My Custard Pie (@mycustardpie), tweeted “Apparently @jamieoliver is here in Dubai. Just hope I bump into you Jamie — kudos for work on healthy eating and the sugar tax.” Samantha Wood, the food guru behind Foodiva (@FooDivaWorld), told us she’s heard the rumour too. Wood tweeted, “All day I have heard rumours that @jamieoliver is in Dubai. If so he’s taken his sweet time + hope it’s for a good cause + not on hols.”
Oliver is known not just for his Italian cuisine, but also for his commitment to healthier school lunches for kids and, more recently, his all out war against sugar. He’s fully behind a proposed 20 per cent tax on sugar-sweetened drinks in the UK and he just released a documentary in London on Channel 4 called Jamie’s Sugar Rush. In it, he explores sugar’s contribution to health problems around the world and shows us how even healthy-looking food can hide loads of sugar.
