Thanksgiving at Spice Island

With Thanksgiving in the US drawing closer, Spice Island restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Dubai-Deira is putting on a celebratory evening spread on November 22, featuring turkey with all the trimmings, traditional roast beef and both pumpkin and chocolate pie. There's also a special children's menu and supervised play area. Prices start at Dh179 per person. Call 04 262 5555.

Colombian cafe opens

Abu Dhabi now has its own Colombian coffee house. Located in Boutik Sun & Sky Towers on Al Reem Island, Cafe Macondo opened last Saturday and serves a range of speciality Colombian hot and cold drinks, fresh juices, sandwiches and pastries. Picnic at Al Badia

The Saturday picnic brunch at Al Badia Golf Club is back. Modelled on a traditional English picnic, guests are provided with blankets and wicker baskets filled with goodies; there's homemade lemonade and iced tea to drink, BBQ cooking stations and live music. Every Saturday on The Lawn at Blades Al Badia Golf Club at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City. Prices start at Dh265. Call 04 7011127.

Tapas at Boardwalk

Every weekday from 4 to 7pm, Boardwalk at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is serving up a new tapas menu, which visitors can enjoy while sitting out on the terrace overlooking the Creek. Special dish at Tribes

In celebration of Moroccan Independence Day on November 18, the African restaurant Tribes is adding lamb tagine to their menu for one week only. The slow cooked dish - a favourite of their head chef - is served with couscous, costs Dh160 and is available from November 18 to 25. Tribes is located in Mall of the Emirates, Dubai.

Teenagers: Encourage a balanced approach – screens should not replace sleep, exercise, or face-to-face socialisation.
