Abu Dhabi’s after-hours scene is set to get a major new player, with Beirut’s MAD nightclub landing in the capital.

The notorious party spot will throw open its doors for the first time on Thursday October 12 – and ahead of the grand launch, we got an exclusive first look.

Taking the imposing Yas Island building formally occupied by O1ne, the club promises to democratise the nightlife scene, with less emphasis on tables and big-spenders.

“It’s a totally different feel,” says CEO Tony Habre, who owns the brand in Lebanon. “I don’t like pretentious clubs, MAD is a place where you come to have fun.

“Walk-in [customers] are a club’s heart and soul.”

Among the cosmetic changes are ripping out O1ne’s central catwalk, to be replaced by a come-as-you-are bar. As well, of course, as a raft of new high-tech lights and lasers.

Normally open every Thursday, Friday and Sunday, MAD has an epic weekend planned for the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with UK urban name Tinie Tempah booked to perform on Saturday, November 28, and EDM duo W&W closing up on Sunda,y November 29.

Habre’s firm, AddMind, are behind several venues in Lebanon and the UAE, including Iris in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and rooftop venue White Dubai. The advantage this offers is that big name international acts can be booked to play both cities in a single weekend.

“I think Abu Dhabi needs this,” adds Habre. “We need a bit of movement here and I hope we can supply it – I think we can.”
