Her career spans more than 40 years, so you'd imagine Meryl Streep has learnt how to make an entrance in that time.

And make an entrance she did at the Venice Film Festival yesterday, as she attended the premiere of her latest film, the Steven Soderbergh-directed comedy-drama, The Laundromat.

The American actress was all smiles as she arrived on the red carpet, waving to the gathered crowds as she shone in a blue sequinned Givenchy dress.

Also in attendance on the fifth day of the Italian film festival was Streep's co-star in The Laundromat, Gary Oldman, as well as stars including Sienna Miller and Penelope Cruz, who turned up for the Wasp Network screening. The premiere of TV series The New Pope brought Jude Law and John Malkovich to Venice, while Molly Sims, Gael Garcia Bernal and Isaballe Huppert all walked the red carpet on Sunday, September 1.

The Venice Film Festival will continue until Saturday, September 7.
