Bollywood's favourite designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has teamed up with L’Oreal to create a limited edition collection of "festive" makeup.
The collection was unveiled last night, with a campaign featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who has long been a face of L'Oreal. “My collaboration with L’Oreal Paris is about celebration,” Mukherjee wrote on Facebook. “An idea born in Calcutta and inspired by Paris, aimed at bringing back easy glamour and a sense of celebratory whimsy.”
Highlights from the 21-piece collection, which is available online, include a Black Lacquer liquid eyeliner, a Volume Million Lashes mascara, and a series of lipstick in bold shades of red. “For me, makeup doesn't have to be ephemeral, it should be classic and timeless. Those were my thoughts when I was curating the collection,” Mukherjee explains.
Rich, luxurious and indulgent is how the designer sums up his new offering, which is in keeping with the colourful, beautifully crafted, heavily embellished outfits that he is famed for and that are so loved by Bollywood biggest actresses. He is also known for his bridal couture and starred on the television show, Band Baajaa Bride with Sabyasachi, where he helped women plan their outfits ahead of their big day.
Mukherjee says his makeup line has been created for “the bold, self confident and powerful woman of today” and offered advice via Instagram on how to wear a red lip. “While there are many routes that one can take, let’s do it the French way” he wrote. “Wear a strong mouth with a sense of casual whimsy. Carefree hair, careless clothing and a little bit of sunshine create an unforgettable beauty story. For the woman who has a certain je ne sais quoi about her.”
The collection comes in striking black and gold packaging, which, Mukherjee explains, was inspired by a fountain pen. “Black and gold. Simple and strong.”
