Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi is hosting its second Modest Fashion Weekend, from October 4 to 6.
The event counts Sheikha Mariam bint Khalifa bin Saif Al Nahyan as its patron, and aims to showcase the rising wealth of modest fashion. Part of the weekend will include fashion shows of the latest collections from Tryano, Debenhams, H&M, and Marks and Spencer.
The winner of the Modest Fashion design competition (that launched in the summer) will also be announced at the event, as judged by designer Sara Al Madani, Sharmilla Murat, general manager of Tyrano and Saks Fifth Avenue, and Grazia editor Alison Tay and digital editor Olivia Phillips.
The lucky designer will be mentored by Al Madani, as well as a two-week internship with Grazia. In a move that could well launch the career of the region's next big talent, the winning designs will be made for and sold in Tryano.
Visitors can also visit the See Now, Buy Now pop-up to browse a curated modestwear collection, including a tote bag that has been especially designed for the event. All proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Also on show will be a workshop on how to customise clothing, and even a first look at the new jewellery designed by Sheikha Mariam.
As Shatha Al Romaithy, director of marketing at Yas Mall, explains “We were delighted with the response we received last year for Abu Dhabi’s first Modest Fashion Weekend and so this year we have made our event even bigger and better. We wanted to champion modestwear through our dazzling catwalks from our retailers, whilst also inviting visitors to participate in several inspirational interactive activities such as our customisation workshops, a jewellery showcase, a pop-up shop and a local designer competition. We look forward to welcoming everyone to learn more about this conservative yet elegant fashion trend.”
