What better way to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day than by enlisting the help of royalty?
Sheikha Madiyah Al Sharqi is a member of the ruling family of Fujairah, but she may be more familiar to some simply as Madiyah Al Sharqi, the hardworking and refreshingly down-to-earth fashion designer.
This year, Al Sharqi has thrown the support of her self-titled brand behind Emirati Women's Day, the annual event launched three years ago by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, to honour the strong women who have shaped the UAE. As Al Sharqi explains: "The UAE has always been progressive and supportive, and it makes me proud that women today are more empowered than ever to pursue what they are passionate about."
To mark the day, her fashion house has teamed up with another home-grown talent, online shopping boutique The Modist, to launch a limited-edition series of long-sleeved tops, embroidered with feminist sentiments. Fittingly for the multicultural UAE, the words are emblazoned in Arabic and English.
The terms “Fearless Woman”, “Empowered Woman” and “Incredible Woman” are splashed across a simple white top, providing an upbeat way for every woman to show support.
Exclusively available online at The Modist, the tops, like all Madiyah Al Sharqi pieces, were made in the UAE, and cost Dh300 each. Speaking about the collaboration, The Modist's founder and chief executive Ghizlan Guenez says: "The UAE is home to women who are empowered, fearless and incredible; and that is what we stand for at The Modist. In celebration of Emirati Women's Day, we are thrilled to collaborate with talented Emirati designer Madiyah Al Sharqi on this exclusive capsule."
