Many of the world's style set are currently decamping from New York to the British capital, where London Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow. However, plenty of style-savvy editors, buyers and influencers are also gathering in India this week, where Lakme Fashion Week is underway for another year.

The catwalk extravaganza, which will be held in Mumbai from Wednesday, February 12 to Sunday, February 16, launched proceedings for its 20th iteration yesterday.

Designers including Vaishali S, Swapnil Shinde and Chandrima were among those who sent a stream of avant-garde silhouettes, multi-hued fabrics and complex embellishments down the runway on LFW's first day.

The night was closed with a presentation by Manish Arora, who has dressed the likes of Katy Perry, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Nicki Minaj.

The day kicked off, meanwhile, with a multi-label presentation, with stars such as Bollywood's Vicky Kaushal, in Kunal Rawal, and Janhvi Kapoor, wearing Rahul Mishra, walking the runway.

Mishra has dressed numerous celebrities over the years, from Deepika Padukone to Zendaya, who recently stunned in a sheer, hand-embroidered jacket that mimics falling leaves, when she stepped out for a New York Fashion Week Bulgari party.

Labels such as Ashdeen, Amit Aggarwal and Ritu Kumar will also present collections as Lakme Fashion Week unfolds.
