Nike used New York Fashion Week to unveil the kits its sponsored athletes will be wearing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with Ibtihaj Muhammad among the sports stars to model.
The hijab-wearing champion fencer walked the runway alongside the likes of high jumper Vashti Cunningham, skateboarder Sky Brown and basketball player Diana Taurasi.
It is not the first time Muhammad has modelled for Nike, having starred in the brand’s 2019 Paris showcase, as well as in advertising campaigns.
Muhammad became the first Muslim American woman to wear a hijab while competing for the United States at the Olympics in Rio back in 2016, where she won bronze in the fencing arena.
The Nike show, which took place at Shed venue in Hudson Yards, also showcased the brand’s new collaborations with Sacai and Virgil Abloh. Stars including Drake, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar and Rosalia were among those to sit front row.
The evening also saw Nike pay tribute to late LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who was killed last month in a helicopter crash alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
