Best and worst dressed: 26 looks from the Venice Film Festival red carpets

As the stars turn up the glamour for the festival, we see who got it right, and who got it very wrong

  HIT: Naomi Watts looked elegant yet edgy in a semi-sheer Dior gown.

  HIT: Wearing Givenchy Couture, actress Mia Goth looked ethereal.

  HIT: Dakota Johnson, director Luca Guadagnino and Tilda Swinton all wore shades of red for the premiere of their film Suspiria.

  HIT: Actress Sveva Alvita looked like Jessica Rabbit in a red feathered gown and Messika diamonds.

  HIT: Looking every inch the superstar, Lady Gaga wore a feathered Valentino gown for the premiere of the film "A Star is Born"

  HIT: It is crazy, but this ombre blue silk suit works well on Radiohead singer Thom Yorke, complete with sandals and a man-bun.

  HIT: Looking perfectly co-ordinated, Claire Foy mixed a duo-tone red and pink gown with Messika diamonds, while Ryan Gosling mixed white and cream.

  HIT: Valentino designer Pierpaolo Piccioli looked immaculate in a white suit.

  HIT: It's a tricky colour to pull off, but Tilda Swinton nailed this chartreuse dress, pairing it with pistachio shoes.

  HIT: Dakota Johnson looked perfect in a vintage style lace dress.

  HIT: Filip Jan Rymsza looked stylish and confident in an all dark look.

• 

  HIT: Emma Stone wore a loose Louis Vuitton embroidered dress.

  HIT: Bradley Cooper certainly knows how to wear a suit, and looked fabulous in this midnight blue tuxedo.

  MISS: We love Valentino, but Yvonne Scio was overwhelmed by this dress.

• 

  MISS: Looking shabby rather than chic, Jessica Mercedes didn't quite pull of this daring dress. The shopping bag handbag was a big no. 

• 

  MISS: Aiming for masculine but ending up dishevelled, Maxine Peake looked messy in satin shirt and trousers.

• 

  MISS: We aren't quite sure what Chloe Moretz was aiming for here, but Yeti feet is never a great look.

• 

  MISS: Italians are known for their relaxed insouciance, but someone should have told Matthias Schoenaerts that hats do not belong on the red carpet.

• 

  MISS: While we are all in favour of people dressing to their own style, Marc du Pontavice, David Oelhoffen, Sofiane Zermani, Reda Kateb and Matthias Schoenaerts just look like they couldn't be bothered.

The 75th Venice Film Festival is well underway, and film stars have been parading the red carpet to promote their latest films.

So, who wore what? The most fairytale dress was undoubtedly sported by Lady Gaga for the premiere of her film A Star is Born. In pink frothy Valentino, she looked astonishing.
