Tory Burch
The designer was in town to launch her collection of kaftans with a dazzling party at One & Only The Palm Dubai. While in town, Burch also visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, went on a heritage desert safari in the Dubai desert and paid a visit to the Spice Souq.
Arizona Muse
A-list model Arizona Muse was one of Tory Burch's guests at the star-studded launch.
Gloria Gaynor
Musical entertainment at the Tory Burch party in Dubai came from Gloria Gaynor singer. The I Will Survive hitmaker posted a snap with Burch on Instagram, writing, "Thank you for having me perform at your fabulous party tonight in Dubai and for dressing me and my ladies so elegantly!" She checked into the Fairmont The Palm for her stay.
Leomie Anderson
Model Leomie Anderson was also at the Tory Burch event. When she wasn't partying at the One & Only The Palm Dubai, she was posing up a storm on the beach at Five Palm Jumeirah Hotel.
Dimples Romana
Filipina actress Dimples Romana is in town with her husband and children Callie and Alonzo Ahmee. The family has checked out Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, taken a desert safari and eaten at Amorino cafe in City Walk.
Sunny Leone
Bollywood star Sunny Leone has been in Dubai with husband Daniel Weber for a post-Diwali holiday. The pair checked into the Five Palm Jumeirah Hotel and she posted "postcard"-perfect pictures.
Eminem
Marshall Mathers himself took to the stage this week, performing to a packed-out crowd at the Du Arena. The Friday, October 25 gig fell on the birthday of Eminem's DJ pal, Daniel Maman, known as The Alchemist. With Denaun Porter and The Alchemist, Eminem posed for a birthday selfie on stage.
Skylar Grey
Skylar Grey made time to explore the UAE, by visiting Abu Dhabi's Zaya Nurai island and going dune bashing with fiance Elliott Taylor. After her stint on stage with Eminem at his Yas Island concert, Grey thanked fans, saying, "Thank you Abu Dhabi for being the loudest most amped crowd ever! You were amazing."
Trevor Noah
Another performer last weekend was Trevor Noah, who brought his Loud and Clear comedy tour to the UAE. "Abu Dhabi! I had such an amazing weekend. Thank you to everyone that came out to the shows," he wrote on Instagram, adding plenty of fan photos to the post. He also paid a visit to Dubai's Fairmont The Palm, where he had an encounter with a "majestic" falcon.
Gucci Mane
Rapper Gucci Mane posted a photo of himself striding down the beach on Palm Jumeirah's crescent near W Dubai - The Palm, with the caption, "They hate it when u happy". He also went shopping at The Dubai Mall and wandered around Satwa wearing a kandora, in a bid to "not look like a tourist in Dubai". The rapper performed at Drai's Dubai.
Joe Wicks
The Body Coach is still in the UAE. The fitness enthusiast has been staying at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and has been out and about in the desert, holding sessions at schools and checking out the Burj Khalifa.
Eddie Hall and Martins Licis
Strongmen Eddie Hall and Martins Licis were in Dubai during the Dubai Fitness Challenge. The pair took on a mega 849.5 kilogram leg press at Al Quoz gym, Train.
Kathy Reichs
Author of the Temperance Brennan novels, Tory Brennan novels, and producer on Fox series Bones, Kathy Reichs is in the UAE for the Sharjah International Book Festival, while in town she also paid a visit to the Al Khaleej National School

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.

What you as a drone operator need to know
A permit and licence is required to fly a drone legally in Dubai.
Sanad Academy is the United Arab Emirate’s first RPA (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) training and certification specialists endorsed by the Dubai Civil Aviation authority.
It is responsible to train, test and certify drone operators and drones in UAE with DCAA Endorsement.
“We are teaching people how to fly in accordance with the laws of the UAE,” said Ahmad Al Hamadi, a trainer at Sanad.
“We can show how the aircraft work and how they are operated. They are relatively easy to use, but they need responsible pilots.
“Pilots have to be mature. They are given a map of where they can and can’t fly in the UAE and we make these points clear in the lectures we give.
“You cannot fly a drone without registration under any circumstances.”
Larger drones are harder to fly, and have a different response to location control. There are no brakes in the air, so the larger drones have more power.
The Sanad Academy has a designated area to fly off the Al Ain Road near Skydive Dubai to show pilots how to fly responsibly.
“As UAS technology becomes mainstream, it is important to build wider awareness on how to integrate it into commerce and our personal lives,” said Major General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief, Dubai Police.
“Operators must undergo proper training and certification to ensure safety and compliance.
“Dubai’s airspace will undoubtedly experience increased traffic as UAS innovations become commonplace, the Forum allows commercial users to learn of best practice applications to implement UAS safely and legally, while benefitting a whole range of industries.”

Citizenship-by-investment programmes
United Kingdom
The UK offers three programmes for residency. The UK Overseas Business Representative Visa lets you open an overseas branch office of your existing company in the country at no extra investment. For the UK Tier 1 Innovator Visa, you are required to invest £50,000 (Dh238,000) into a business. You can also get a UK Tier 1 Investor Visa if you invest £2 million, £5m or £10m (the higher the investment, the sooner you obtain your permanent residency).
All UK residency visas get approved in 90 to 120 days and are valid for 3 years. After 3 years, the applicant can apply for extension of another 2 years. Once they have lived in the UK for a minimum of 6 months every year, they are eligible to apply for permanent residency (called Indefinite Leave to Remain). After one year of ILR, the applicant can apply for UK passport.
The Caribbean
Depending on the country, the investment amount starts from $100,000 (Dh367,250) and can go up to $400,000 in real estate. From the date of purchase, it will take between four to five months to receive a passport.
Portugal
The investment amount ranges from €350,000 to €500,000 (Dh1.5m to Dh2.16m) in real estate. From the date of purchase, it will take a maximum of six months to receive a Golden Visa. Applicants can apply for permanent residency after five years and Portuguese citizenship after six years.
“Among European countries with residency programmes, Portugal has been the most popular because it offers the most cost-effective programme to eventually acquire citizenship of the European Union without ever residing in Portugal,” states Veronica Cotdemiey of Citizenship Invest.
Greece
The real estate investment threshold to acquire residency for Greece is €250,000, making it the cheapest real estate residency visa scheme in Europe. You can apply for residency in four months and citizenship after seven years.
Spain
The real estate investment threshold to acquire residency for Spain is €500,000. You can apply for permanent residency after five years and citizenship after 10 years. It is not necessary to live in Spain to retain and renew the residency visa permit.
Cyprus
Cyprus offers the quickest route to citizenship of a European country in only six months. An investment of €2m in real estate is required, making it the highest priced programme in Europe.
Malta
The Malta citizenship by investment programme is lengthy and investors are required to contribute sums as donations to the Maltese government. The applicant must either contribute at least €650,000 to the National Development & Social Fund. Spouses and children are required to contribute €25,000; unmarried children between 18 and 25 and dependent parents must contribute €50,000 each.
The second step is to make an investment in property of at least €350,000 or enter a property rental contract for at least €16,000 per annum for five years. The third step is to invest at least €150,000 in bonds or shares approved by the Maltese government to be kept for at least five years.
Candidates must commit to a minimum physical presence in Malta before citizenship is granted. While you get residency in two months, you can apply for citizenship after a year.
Egypt
A one-year residency permit can be bought if you purchase property in Egypt worth $100,000. A three-year residency is available for those who invest $200,000 in property, and five years for those who purchase property worth $400,000.
