Fashion aficionados will be delighted to learn that Issey Miyake is finally opening a stand-alone Pleats Please store in the UAE. In partnership with Symphony, the new store will be housed in the extension of Fashion Avenue in The Dubai Mall, currently under construction. It is expected to be open in November this year.
Famed for the use of technology in his fabrics and designs, Issey Miyake has always approached fashion in a uniquely practical way. In the early 1980s, the Japanese designer developed a new method of permanently heat pleating fabric, that was both durable and fluid enough for clothing.
This innovation developed into the label Pleats Please, using the new fabric to create pieces that combine Japanese minimalism with fashion chic. The pleating creates volume in even the most simple item, which makes tops, trousers and dresses very comfortable to wear. Standing away from the body, yet perfectly covering it, these pieces are ideally suited for our region.
Feted with various awards and retrospectives around the world, Miyake has had an illustrious career that has spanned 45 years and covers perfumes, fashion and accessories. As well as designing 12 lines of products (his work output is even more impressive than Karl Lagerfeld’s), Miyake also designed the simple black turtleneck sweaters worn by Steve Jobs, a personal friend.
Pleats Please Issey Miyake will open in The Dubai Mall in November.
