ABU DHABI // A stretch of beach exclusively for ladies is to open at Al Bateen on Thursday, Abu Dhabi Municipality has announced.
The ladies’ beach will open for a trial period, says the head of the municipality’s department of beaches, Khalaf Al Nakkas.
Mr Al Nakkas said every precaution would be taken to ensure the privacy and safety of beach visitors.
The beach will be able to cater for about 6,000 people, and will include a cinema, yoga and water sports areas, and a playground.
Males over the age of 6 will not be allowed and photographs are also banned.
Tweeters have taken to the internet under an Arabic hashtag translated to “Private Women’s Beach in Abu Dhabi” to express their excitement, concerns and questions regarding the beach.
It will be open between 10am and 10pm, but swimming will only be allowed until sunset for safety reasons.
