ABU DHABI // Preparations are under way for Al Gharbia Watersports Festival from April 24 to May 3.
The festival will feature kite surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, Al Bwanich sailing race, a dhow race off Marwah Island, a modern sailing boat race, a traditional rowing boat race, a kayak race, swimming, games for children, beach football and volleyball, a traditional market, shows, theatre competitions, parasailing and a cooking contest.
“The festival seeks to promote Al Gharbia as a destination for visitors and tourists interested in marine and beach sports,” said Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, chairman of the organising committee.
The committee hopes to support cultural, heritage, social and tourist activities and encourage the community to take part in these activities.
“We hope to help the locals promote the various products that are made and manufactured by families in the region,” said Mr Al Mazrouei.
“The festival does provide an appropriate platform for locals to display and sell their products in the traditional market, which is held on Mirfa Beach,” said Mr Al Mazrouei.
“Among our other objectives is the support of a more dynamic lifestyle for the younger generation in Al Gharbia and the promotion of active participation in the diverse sports and marine games.”
