ABU DHABI // A new system to validate passengers’ boarding passes starts operating next month at Terminal 3 in Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Airport chiefs say the system, the first technology of its kind in the region, will improve security, speed up passenger processing and cut waiting times by automatically verifying boarding passes.

There will be four security lanes with automatic gates, pass scanners and hand-held wireless pass scanners.

Ahmad Al Haddabi, chief operations officers at Abu Dhabi Airports, said the system would maintain the balance between continuous passenger flow and stringent security measures.

“The task is even more important in view of our continued growth. With newly deployed technology using self-service features, verifying passenger documentation will be done quickly and efficiently, while improving passenger experience,” he said.

The system will ensure passengers are at the correct terminal and security checkpoint.

It will automatically validate their data and check departure timings.

The information will then be displayed on a touch-screen monitor in seconds.
