SHARJAH // Hotels in the emirate attracted more than two million guests last year.
Mohammed Ali Al Noman, the chairman of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), spoke of the emirate’s popularity with visitors as he attended the ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin); the world’s largest tourism trade fair.
He said the number of visits come in conjunction with a growing number of tourism offerings in the emirate, with 106 hotel establishments now based in Sharjah, according to state news agency WAM. A number of new luxury hotels are also set to open in 2015, notably Sheraton Hotel and Resort.
Sharjah’s presence at the exhibition was all the more special this year with the emirate’s position as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2015, said Mr Al Noman.
