Glow in the dark themed zone set to light up Zabeel Park

DUBAI // A new glow-in-the-dark zone is set to open this month at Zabeel Park.

In addition to lighting up plants, trees and animals, Dubai Garden Glow will also recreate experiences such as the Masai Mara wildebeest migration and feature replicas of UAE landmarks made from recycled porcelain cups and medicine bottles.

The Dh30 million project has been billed as one of the world’s largest family destinations, offering two experiences, Art by Day and Glow by Night through to April next year, according to Dubai Municipality.

The garden will feature a unique light show in the Zone B area of Zabeel Park.

The park also promises to replicate the famous tulips of the Netherlands.

Attractions for younger children will include the Talking Tree, Panda Paradise, Dino Camp and Candy Land.

Dedicated areas for children to encourage them to learn through play concepts will be part of the venue.

Ticket prices and the garden’s launch date has yet to be announced.

Live performances by international and local artists and acrobats along with musical shows to promote UAE culture are on the cards.

The environmental section will include a porcelain model of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque made from 90,000 porcelain cups, plates and spoons and a 12-metre-high mock-up of the Burj Khalifa recreated with 330,000 medicine bottles filled with coloured water.

The municipality estimates more than 5,000 visitors daily.

“Dubai Garden Glow is a unique edutainment vision which has been brought to life using cutting edge technology and some of the best artistic talent from different corners of the world,” said Hussain Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality.

“Dubai Garden Glow will engage and inspire visitors by spreading a strong message reinforcing Dubai’s commitment towards using recycled products and reducing carbon footprint.”

How I connect with my kids when working or travelling

Little notes: My girls often find a letter from me, with a joke, task or some instructions for the afternoon, and saying what I’m excited for when I get home.
Phone call check-in: My kids know that at 3.30pm I’ll be free for a quick chat.
Highs and lows: Instead of a “how was your day?”, at dinner or at bathtime we share three highlights; one thing that didn’t go so well; and something we’re looking forward to.
I start, you next: In the morning, I often start a little Lego project or drawing, and ask them to work on it while I’m gone, then we’ll finish it together.
Bedtime connection: Wake up and sleep time are important moments. A snuggle, some proud words, listening, a story. I can’t be there every night, but I can start the day with them.
Undivided attention: Putting the phone away when I get home often means sitting in the car to send a last email, but leaving it out of sight between home time and bedtime means you can connect properly.
Demystify, don’t demonise your job: Help them understand what you do, where and why. Show them your workplace if you can, then it’s not so abstract when you’re away - they’ll picture you there. Invite them into your “other” world so they know more about the different roles you have.
