UAE’s child protection app nominated for international award

ABU DHABI // Child protection application nominated to receive an international award.

The Ministry of Interior's Child Protection Center participated with two projects in the three-day International Exhibition for Security and National Resilience (ISNR) which have been listed among the final nominees for the World Summit on the Information Society 2014 award after passing the first and second stages.

The center is participating in the fifth category of the contest which is concerned with "building confidence and security with utilization of ICT", where the center submitted its online application having to do with the protection of children called "Himayati" (translated to My Protection).

The application allows children to send alerts to their parents when they are in danger. It also allows parents to track their children’s movements.

So far, it is only available for free download on Android phones.

The center is also participating in the eighteenth category called international and regional collaboration after organizing a global conference under the theme “sexual exploitation of children online and “international collaboration: an enabler to prevention.”

Lt Col Faisal Mohammed Al Shammari, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center said winning the prize would be an important factor in enriching the police and security’s experience internationally. He said the prize would reflect the ministry’s commitment in the presence of international events, including scientific, technological, and research forums.

Maj Gen Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, said the projects reflect the ministry's commitment in achieving the UAE's 2021 Vision.

He said the participating projects represent strategic development on the country and aim to reach a common goal of improving the competitiveness of the UAE.
