Summer holidays and Eid help to boost Abu Dhabi International Airport passenger traffic

Passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) rose 7.9 per cent in July compared to the same month last year boosted by Eid and summer holidays.

A total of 2,267,572 passengers passed through the airport last month, up from 2,100,929 last year.

Arrival and departure transfers have shown an increase of 8 per cent and 8.6 per cent respectively compared to July 2015, Abu Dhabi Airports said in a statement.

The top city destinations from Abu Dhabi were London, Bangkok, Doha, Mumbai and Manila, representing 16 per cent of the total traffic registered.

Traffic to India recorded a 15.6 per cent increase year-on-year in July, while traffic to the UK grew by 7.7 per cent.

Australia meanwhile recorded a significant rise of 28.1 per cent. Traffic to the United States was up 17.2 per cent.

“The US pre-clearance facility available at AUH has been a significant contributor to that growth,” the statement said.

Dubai International Airport is yet to release its figures for July.

Dubai World Central yesterday revealed the passenger traffic at the emirate's second airport rose by 95 per cent in the first six months of the year.
