Emirates Auction to sell off goods seized at properties in rental dispute cases

Emirates Auction will market and auction off chattels at properties at the centre of rental dispute cases.

The Dubai Land Department’s Rental Disputes Centre (RDC) has signed an agreement with Emirates Auction allowing for possessions left in properties that have been the subject of rental disputes to be sold off.

The agreement states that chattels, or “movable properties” on a piece of land or a property on which a judge has granted an attachment order will be auctioned off by Emirates Auction. It will complete all of the necessary legal work, market the seized goods and offer pot­ential buyers the opportunity to assess them before putting them up for auction.

Abdullah Al Mannai, the executive director of Emirates Auction, said the agreement would help to accelerate the closure of rental disputes.

Auctions will be supervised by the judge overseeing the case and a court bailiff. The judge will decide whether or not to accept the amount offered for items, or whether re-bids are required.

If items are sold, the money received will be set against the value of claim filed with the RDC.

“We are keen on resolving rental disputes as fast as possible, and in order to ensure the rights of all parties, we decided to carry out an agreement with a company specialising in this field,” said the RDC director Abdulqader Musa Mohammed. “We are confident that Emirates Auction has sufficient expertise to carry out the organisation and completion of auctions for the sale of movable properties.”
