Arabian Construction Company’s expansion push into India continues, with the announcement of a contract to build the tallest skyscraper in the north of the country.

ACC, the UAE-based company that is the main contractor behind Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Towers, said yesterday that it had been awarded a contract by the real estate company Brys Group to build an 81-storey tower in Noida, a neighbouring city to New Delhi.

“The awarding of this important contract has allowed ACC to further establish itself as a significant construction operator in the Indian subcontinent and is recognition of the high standards of design and build that we deliver,” said the ACC director Rasheed Mikati.

Mr Mikati said that construction work on the Noida project is likely to begin by October. He declined to comment on financial details of the contract.

ACC entered the Indian market in 2011 in a joint venture with the local developer Lodha Group for the construction of the World One skyscraper in Mumbai.

The 117-storey tower is to be the tallest building in India upon its completion next year.

The new tower for Brys Group will be the second project ACC is undertaking in Noida, alongside the 80-storey Spira Tower in the city’s Supernova district. ACC is also constructing two high-rise buildings in Mumbai, together with a 60-storey building in Kolkata.

“We have been able to demonstrate that we can partner well with India’s leading developers on prestigious projects on a win-win basis,” said ACC India’s managing director, Ani Ray.

“This was definitely an influential factor in ACC receiving the contract [from Brys Group] over other tenders.”

ACC is the leading contractor in the UAE measured by contracts awarded in the country during the first half of 2014, according to research published this month by Meed Projects.

The contractor was awarded a Dh2.7bn contract by Emaar in February for construction of the Address Residence Fountain Views project in Downtown Dubai.

Emaar more recently awarded ACC a Dh1.8bn contract for construction of the Address Residence Sky Views project, also in Downtown Dubai.
