Nissan recorded a monthly record for sales of its Patrol model across the Middle East in July.
Its ubiquitous flagship SUV sold 3,851 units in the region last month - an increase of 103 per cent year on year.
It was particularly popular in the UAE, where a record 1,506 Patrols left the showroom, while the sale of 702 units in Oman and 316 in Qatar were also monthly records.
“Last year saw Nissan register a 32 per cent market share in the Gulf market,” said Samir Cherfan, managing director, Nissan Middle East.
“That is expected to be boosted even further when the figures are totalled at the end of 2014 due to the surge in Patrol sales.”
Mr Cherfan added that many buyers of the Patrol in the Middle East region are extremely loyal to the vehicle.
Nissan’s overall sales in the UAE increased 72 per cent last month year on year.
A statement from the carmaker said that latest sales statistics show the Patrol to command 28 per cent of the top-end SUV segement in the Middle East.
Last year the Patrol pulled itself into the Guinness World Records when it set the record for the "heaviest aircraft pulled by any production vehicle".
It hauled a 170.9 tonne cargo plane for more than 50 metres along the runway at Sharjah International Airport.
