My husband is reported as "absconded" from Dubai. We lived there from 2013 and we had to leave suddenly last month. My parents live in the United States and I have decided to go there for a few years to live. To file an immigration request for the US, I would require a Criminal Record Certificate from Dubai for myself. I was on my husband's visa in Dubai so my question is, if I apply for this certificate on the Dubai police site, will I be able to get a clear criminal record certificate for myself or will I also be blacklisted in Dubai because of my husband's "absconded" status? RH, India
It appears that RH’s husband will be subject to an immigration ban, as that is the usual result if an employee absconds. Individuals are treated separately under UAE law, and if RH has done nothing wrong there should not be any legal consequences for her. To confirm this, she should contact the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigner Affairs (DNRD) by phoning the helpline 800 5111 (+971 4 313 9999 from outside the UAE). What RH refers to a criminal record certificate is known here as a Certificate of Good Conduct. This is a simple process and an application can be made online via the police website dubaipolice.gov.ae for a fee of Dh210. Anyone with a smartphone may apply for the certificate via the Dubai Police app. In both cases the process in straightforward and instructions are clear. The process should only take a few days.
