An explosion rocked a hotel in Davos yesterday as delegates gathered for the World Economic Forum.

Devin Wenig, the chief executive of the markets division of Thomson Reuters, was in a breakfast meeting at the hotel when the explosion occurred.

"A huge boom went off," Mr Wenig told Reuters.

"The whole ceiling lifted. Everyone was convinced it was a bomb. It took a half-hour to reassemble the meeting." Some participants were told that a boiler had exploded, while WEF representatives said a firework had been set off.

A WEF spokesman said police had made two bomb sweeps of the hotel after a threat was posted online. Left-wing activists claimed responsibility for the explosion.
