Dubai Tourism is launching an annual retail calendar in its determination to keep shopping at the forefront of its attraction to regional and global visitors.
With retail estimated at 30 per cent of the emirate’s GDP and a key part of its strategy to bring 20 million visitors by 2020, the new calendar will itemise and highlight the key shopping events throughout the year.
Set to launch on December 26 – the opening day of the Dubai Shopping Festival – the calendar will showcase the full programme of retail activities being conducted and promoted at a city level.
Helal Saeed Al Marri, the director general of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), said that Dubai has been continuously growing its standing as a leader in global travel and this move will help make the city “the world’s leading destination for retail-tourism, attracting more traffic and fuelling consumption across the shopping precincts, and ultimately accelerating domestic retail industry growth”.
