Does UAE newlywed need to change name on Emirates ID, driving licence and other documents?

I got married last year and now wish to change all my legal documents such as my passport and driving licence to my new surname. I have found out how to go about changing my passport to my new name, but I’d like to know if I will also have to change all my other paperwork in the UAE, such as residency visa and identity card. Is it essential that I do this or can I keep those in my current name and just change them when they need renewing in another year? We may even be leaving the UAE later this year, so is it necessary? If someone changes their legal name on their passport then it is essential that all other formal documents issued in the UAE match this, so you have no option but to change everything else. As you would expect there is paperwork to be completed and fees to pay, but failing to do so could cause problems. The Emirates Identity Authority has advised that identity cards must be amended within one month of any changes and even if a woman chooses not to change her surname on marriage she should visit a registration centre to update her status to married on the card and in their records. There is no charge for this simple service.
