Deadline for next set of du Sim registrations across UAE

DUBAI // Du mobile phone customers who have received a text alert in the latest round of the Sim card re-registration process have until July 16 to update their details.

The process is part of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's My Number, My Identity campaign launched last summer, aimed at tackling the fraudulent use of Sim cards.

All du and Etisalat mobile phone customers must re-register their Sim cards as part of the scheme or eventually face the prospect of having their phones blocked.

Both of the telecoms companies are sending text-message alerts to subscribers in six batches.

"We would also like to ensure that our customers are aware the next registration due date is July 16 for customers of batch four," du said.

"We are contacting our customers in batches to inform them of the date by which they must register their Sim card.

"We encourage our customers to visit du shops when they receive the text notification."

The company said it had increased its capacity to cope with people who wanted to register.

"We now have National ID card readers available in all of our retail stores to further simplify the process," du said.

"Customers will only have to present their valid Emirates ID card, our team will swipe it, and the customer can then leave.

"We are in the process of rolling out the National ID card reader in our partner locations and it is already available in branches of Enjazat and OnTime."

Customers who do not register in time will not be able to make outgoing calls or send text messages.

If they fail to register 90 days after that their phones will be completely blocked.

Phones can be unblocked as soon as the Sim card is registered.

As well as National ID cards, customers can register using a valid passport, residency visa or GCC identity card.

Customers who have not received a text message can register at any du or Etisalat outlet.
