Car buyers are spending thousands of pounds more on motors previously owned by celebrities, according to UK car magazine Auto Trader.

Cars owned by the likes of David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Queen Elizabeth II have gone on sale for up to and over double the price of non-famous equivalents of the same make, model and year.

Auto Trader, which lists new and used cars for sale on its website, has revealed that cars with celebrity owners can be put on sale for up to 241 per cent more than another second-hand model.

A Bentley Mulsanne belonging to the Queen was listed on the website for £200,000 (Dh1.02m) in comparison with an equivalent model which was valued at £87,000.

Similarly, a Lamborghini Diablo owned by Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay, which also featured in the British band’s 1996 video, Cosmic Girl, went on sale for £550,000. The model that succeeded the Diablo (there were only 16 originals made), was listed at half the value at £280,000.

Footballers who sell their cars are also likely to see a mark up in price. David Beckham listed his BMW 6 Series for more than double the price of £32,500 of an equivalent model, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s Bentley Continental had an 80 per cent markup in price at £65,000 than its non-celebrity owned counterpart.

However, in what may come as a surprise to some, a car owned by former glamour model Katie Price saw the biggest markup. Ms Price’s shocking pink 2011 Range Rover SE Vogue, which features a Swarovski-embellished clock went on sale for £70,000 in comparison with an equivalent model valued at just £20,500.
