Will I get a ban in the UAE if I want to switch my job before completing six months? I am working in a restaurant and have a new job offer from a hotel for the same position, as a waiter. How can I avoid a ban? WR, Dubai
New rules regarding employment bans came into effect on January 1, this year, and these largely apply to limited and unlimited contracts. Anyone who has completed six months of employment and provides the proper notice period to the employer should not receive an employment ban but within that period the consequences depend on the skill level attributed to the job and visa. For those designated as skill levels one to three there will be no ban, but individuals in categories four and five, primarily unskilled workers without qualifications, will receive a ban for resigning, having completed less than six months’ service. A waiter will be in category four or five so WR would have to remain in his role for a little longer to change job without interruption.
