Can Dubai employee reside outside UAE for 6 months without visa cancellation?

  • English
  • Arabic

If an employee resides outside of Dubai for more than six months what are the consequences? Is the visa automatically cancelled? What are the rules and regulations for a ban if someone just leaves a job and doesn't cancel? TQ, Pakistan

If TQ has left the country without cancelling their visa there will be issues if they return as paperwork must be sorted and there may be a fine. If an employment contract has also been broken, they may have been registered as an absconder and could have a lifetime ban. A residency visa expires after six months out of the UAE and may also have been cancelled by the employer. The way to check is to make inquiries to the Ministry of Labour and the Department of Immigration. The Ministry of Labour has an inquiry services option on its website (www.mol.gov.ae/newMolGateway/english/newIndex.aspx), so that is the best starting point.
