Fed up with being treated like an unimportant person as you pass through an international airport? Fear not, for Abu Dhabi’s new VIP terminal is here to make you feel special again ... if you don’t mind shelling out up to Dh2,000 for the privilege.
Abu Dhabi International Airport on Tuesday formally inaugurated its new 924 square metre VIP terminal, which offers “a world-class travel experience to all passengers using Abu Dhabi International Airport as their destination of choice”.
While the terminal is indeed open to all passengers “from all travelling classes,” it will cost you Dh2,000 to use its services on arrival or departure (Dh3,000 for transiting passengers), although this price tag applies to two people travelling together as well. Any additional guests will have to pay Dh350 (Dh500 for transit), although children under the age of 3 can enter for free.
“The main objective behind this new proposition is to enhance the service level offered at Abu Dhabi International Airport to passengers from all travelling classes,” said Ali Majed Al Mansoori, chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, at the launch.
“Through the new VIP Terminal, Abu Dhabi Airports aims to provide the ultimate in privacy, luxury and security through unique personalised services.”
The new terminal’s facilities include Mercedes Benz limousine transfers between the terminal building and the aircraft gates, a selection of snacks and canapé services available at the touch of a button, complimentary premium beverage services and shower facilities.
The terminal also includes its own drop-off area accessed via a roadway built specifically to accommodate it.
For those who still don’t feel important enough, a bouquet of “fresh dazzling flowers” to bid you welcome or farewell is available for Dh250.
The new facility will be operated by National Aviation Services (NAS), the current provider of Golden Class services in Terminals 1 and 3.
“With its seamless immigration process, baggage handling services and private limousine services directly to and from the aircraft, the VIP Terminal is set to take ‘travel in style’ to the next level,” said NAS’s chief executive, Hassan El Houry.
“It is a moment of pride for everyone involved in the dynamic growth of Abu Dhabi International Airport.”
