Will Mumford and Sons come to the Abu Dhabi F1?

With rumours persisting the British group are indeed heading to the capital in November, we pick five key songs that would surely be played in their maiden UAE show

It is shaping to be the worst kept secret in Abu Dhabi.

With promoters Flash Entertainment set to announce the remaining two acts to perform as part of the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 after race concert series on November 24 and 25, they dropped two hints online that swiftly pointed to songs from British group Mumford and sons.

Now, if this prediction is correct, then it will another feather in the bow of the band who reach a bigger audience with each release. Here are five keys tracks illustrating the Mumford and Sons sound.

I Will Wait

Upon its release as the lead single from their second album Babel, the 2012 track topped the US chart and even featured in the video game Guitar Hero Live. This barn storming song has furiously strummed acoustic guitar and banjo, horns and a driving rhythm. If they are indeed coming, then expect this one to elicit a massive sing-along.

Hopeless Wanderer

Another one from Babel, this single is a more sensitive mid-tempo piece that begins as a piano ballad before locking into a waltz-like groove.

Believe

Much more interesting. Released as part of their atmospheric 2015 album Wilder Mind, Believe ditches the quaint folk stylings for a more pulsating rock sound. This is exciting, albeit quietly.

Lover of the Light

A wide eyed pop song that comes complete with a video starring Idris Elba. If you close your eyes and focus on lead singer’s Marcus Mumford yearns over those chiming guitars you would think you are listening to an old R.E.M single. A good thing.

The Cave

The quintessential Mumford and Sons sound, for better or worse. It’s a tub thumbing banjo rocker that can either make you stomp along or wince at how pastoral it all sounds. Another one that gets a big reaction in the live shows.
