The Oscars are, naturally, packed full of celebrities – the most accomplished of actors, talented musicians or finest directors in the business they call show. But there was one attendee at the 91st Academy Awards that got a little more attention than others on the red carpet: none other than professional tidy-upper, organising supremo and Netflix star, Marie Kondo. The Japanese "organising consultant", who is the brain behind the book <em>The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up</em> and Netflix's hit show, <em>Tidying Up with Marie Kondo</em>, walked the prestigious awards ceremony's red carpet, and we want to know why. Tickets to the Oscars are nigh on impossible to get unless you're nominated, presenting an award, performing or a plus one – sparking joy, alone, doesn't get you Oscars access. Now, Kondo wasn't listed as a presenter and didn't seem to be a part of any big shot's entourage. So, ahead of the show it was then assumed that she would be included in a bit during the ceremony. When it wrapped and she hadn't featured, the mystery remained unsolved. It's no secret that the 2019 Academy Awards were a "mess" of controversies, <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/arts-culture/film/oscars-2019-set-to-go-host-free-here-s-who-we-d-like-to-see-in-the-job-1.811625">with hosting drama</a>, and accusations of both <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/arts-culture/film/oscarssoamerican-two-thirds-of-oscar-nominees-in-2019-are-from-the-us-1.817550">racism</a> and <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/arts-culture/film/oscars-2019-the-all-female-best-director-shortlist-that-should-have-been-1.816892">sexism</a>. And we all know that mess is what Marie Kondo deals with best. Cue the jokes on Twitter... But no, she was not there to clear up the hot mess that was. She was there as a red carpet guest of entertainment news show, <em>Access </em>(formerly <em>Access Hollywood</em>), which meant she was there to mingle with nominees on the red carpet. Who was she most looking forward to meeting? "Emma Stone, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper," Kondo revealed in her <em>Access </em>interview. <em>The Guardian</em>'s Hadley Freeman tweeted excitedly about her own encounter with Kondo. Freeman later embellished upon the meeting in her column for the British newspaper, writing: "The first person I spot in the Dolby is Marie Kondo, a woman who has forged a remarkable career for herself by simply telling people to throw out their [rubbish]. "Just to emphasise how much the world has changed from the days of Monroe and Hitchcock, Kondo turns out to be the most elite person I meet all night, because she is forbidden from talking to anyone," Freeman goes on to write. "'She's here with<em> Access Hollywood</em> so she can't give quotes. 'But you can have a selfie', her translator explains."
