Today's entertainment news: Shah Rukh Khan nominated for India's Razzies

Movie fans in India are handing out their own version of the Razzies, the annual Oscars spoof that spotlights Hollywood's worst performances.

The second Ghanta (bell) Awards and the fourth Golden Kela (golden banana) awards are doing the rounds of social media networks, with fans voting for the worst Bollywood films of 2011.

Big-ticket stars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are nominated in the worst actor categories at The Ghantas while the SRK caper Don 2 has been nominated in the "Worst Rip-Off" category for imitating "every Hollywood action film".

Organisers say no Bollywood star or filmmaker shows up to claim their prizes.

The Ghantas will be announced in February in Mumbai, while the Golden Kela ceremony will be held in New Delhi in March.

Agneepath breaks box office records

The Hritik Roshan-starrer Agneepath has snatched the box-office record held by Salman Khan's Bodyguard for the Bollywood film with the biggest opening-day collections in history.

Released on Thursday, Agneepath collected Rs230 million (Dh17m), breaking Bodyguard's record of Rs216m, set on August 2011.

The film, which also features Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt, is expected to continue earning an average of Rs200m per day this week.

The trade analyst Komal Nahta predicted that Agneepath could break Bodyguard's other record of grossing Rs1 billion in a span of eight days by reaching the benchmark faster.

Demi Moore was convulsing, says 911 call

Demi Moore smoked something before she was rushed to the hospital last Monday and was "shaking, convulsing, burning up" and "semi-conscious, barely", according to a frantic 911 recording released Friday by Los Angeles fire officials.

The recording captures the 10 minutes it took paramedics to arrive, as friends rushed to the collapsed star's side.

When the operator asks what Moore ingested, the friend replies, but the answer was redacted.

"Some form of ... and then she smoked something. I didn't really see. She's been having some issues lately. So I don't know what she's been taking or not," the friend says. "She smoked something. It's not marijuana. It's similar to incense."

While Moore's friends don't say exactly what she smoked, a popular drug known as Spice is sometimes labelled as "herbal incense". Asked if Moore took the substance intentionally, the woman says Moore ingested it on purpose.

Moore's publicist, Carrie Gordon, said she would not comment further on the emergency call or on the actress's treatment.

German plea

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the German parliament that. Russia had erected a new wall across Europe.

"It's not a Berlin Wall -- it is a Wall in central Europe between freedom and bondage and this Wall is growing bigger with every bomb" dropped on Ukraine, Zelenskyy told MPs.

Mr Zelenskyy was applauded by MPs in the Bundestag as he addressed Chancellor Olaf Scholz directly.

"Dear Mr Scholz, tear down this Wall," he said, evoking US President Ronald Reagan's 1987 appeal to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate.

Recipe

Garlicky shrimp in olive oil
Gambas Al Ajillo

Preparation time: 5 to 10 minutes

Cooking time: 5 minutes

Serves 4

Ingredients

180ml extra virgin olive oil; 4 to 5 large cloves of garlic, minced or pureed (or 3 to 4 garlic scapes, roughly chopped); 1 or 2 small hot red chillies, dried (or ¼ teaspoon dried red chilli flakes); 400g raw prawns, deveined, heads removed and tails left intact; a generous splash of sweet chilli vinegar; sea salt flakes for seasoning; a small handful of fresh flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped

Method

Heat the oil in a terracotta dish or frying pan. Once the oil is sizzling hot, add the garlic and chilli, stirring continuously for about 10 seconds until golden and aromatic.

Add a splash of sweet chilli vinegar and as it vigorously simmers, releasing perfumed aromas, add the prawns and cook, stirring a few times.

Once the prawns turn pink, after 1 or 2 minutes of cooking, remove from the heat and season with sea salt flakes.

Once the prawns are cool enough to eat, scatter with parsley and serve with small forks or toothpicks as the perfect sharing starter. Finish off with crusty bread to soak up all that flavour-infused olive oil.

How the UAE gratuity payment is calculated now

Employees leaving an organisation are entitled to an end-of-service gratuity after completing at least one year of service.

The tenure is calculated on the number of days worked and does not include lengthy leave periods, such as a sabbatical. If you have worked for a company between one and five years, you are paid 21 days of pay based on your final basic salary. After five years, however, you are entitled to 30 days of pay. The total lump sum you receive is based on the duration of your employment.

1. For those who have worked between one and five years, on a basic salary of Dh10,000 (calculation based on 30 days):

a. Dh10,000 ÷ 30 = Dh333.33. Your daily wage is Dh333.33

b. Dh333.33 x 21 = Dh7,000. So 21 days salary equates to Dh7,000 in gratuity entitlement for each year of service. Multiply this figure for every year of service up to five years.

2. For those who have worked more than five years

c. 333.33 x 30 = Dh10,000. So 30 days’ salary is Dh10,000 in gratuity entitlement for each year of service.

Note: The maximum figure cannot exceed two years total salary figure.
