The Lighthouse Family lead singer Tunde Baiyewu to perform at Dubai’s Big Grill Festival

The voice of easy listening duo The Lighthouse Family will serenade carnivores digging into plates of barbecue at this year’s Big Grill Festival in Dubai.

Lead singer Tunde Baiyewu will lead the live entertainment at the “city’s only meat and music event”, which returns to Emirates Golf Course on April 7.

The 48-year-old songbird will have some competition with New Order playing Dubai Tennis Stadium on the same night, while April 7 will also see the inaugural Step Music festival at nearby Dubai International Marine Club. We’ve had a sneak peek at the line-up for that one, and can confirm it will be epic – a full announcement is expected to be made any minute, but for now let’s just say: Two stages.

Best known for radio anthems Lifted, High and Lost in Space, The Lighthouse Family broke hearts when they split in 2003. Since then, Baiyewu has been going alone, releasing solo albums Diamond in a Rock and Tunde, in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

While he might face competition, The Big Grill is aimed at the more casual breed of music fan – as the name suggests, the true draw here is the meat.

“Highlights” will include the opportunity for macho types to man the grill in “BBQ battle” showdowns, and the utterly depraved, morally dubious festival favourite – burger eating competitions. Yikes.

The event takes place at The Lawns, Emirates Golf Club, on April 7 from 2pm. Tickets Dh125. See www.facebook.com/thebiggrillfestival.
